Spring Break: Second Half
The underlying themes of the second half of the week were (in no particular order) March Madness, camping, the bathroom remodel, and celebrating Baha'i New Year/the first day of Spring with our ET posse.
Grout was successfully applied? Administered? Plain ol' put it?
Walls received a second coat of paint.
Counters were selected and purchased. We picked out some samples and texted this picture out for an informal voting. Spoiler alert: We picked a counter option not shown in the sampling. Ha!

We discovered this trick. We've lived here almost two years! How are we just stumbling upon this?
I've got some hilar videos of such antics, perhaps I'll post them another day.
Ollie, practicing reading his award winner.
And of course, the much anticipated camping trip went down, just not in the way we expected. Although it was in the 70's the whole time Josh was here, and it's supposed to be 90 on Tuesday, the highs over the weekend were in the 50's, with lows in the 30's.
So we camped at home. Which. Was. Awesome. I cannot stress that enough.
No one froze.
We could shower before bed so we didn't have to smell like campfire all night long.
We could shove mattresses into the tent.
We forgot nothing.
No packing.
We had functioning, non-smelly, real bathrooms.
No drive.
We didn't have to clean out nasty coolers back home.
No bugs, no mud.
No scary loud wind noises to keep a certain five year old up all night.
The boys slept in since the sun didn't wake everyone.
Hang up some Christmas lights and viola, you can still star gaze!
Despite all that perfection, Jon and I still slept terribly. Ha! That's camping for ya.

Spring Break: First Half
Spring break started out with an elusive date night, courtesy of Jennifer the Great, Discount Tire rebate Visa gift cards, and Longhorn Steak House. Jennifer always tries to indoctrinate the boys on how great Texas is, because she knows Jon and I sure as heck aren't going out of our way for such matters. She brought the boys these suckers to drive home that point. One of our boys is easily swayed by such bribery and will gladly parrot virtues of Texas. The other one? Not so much.
Jennifer: Ollie, what's the best state?
Ollie: Kentucky!!
J: Kentucky??! What on earth?! Why Kentucky??
O: They have the best songs!
Jon got caught up on/in some laundry...
The boys and I started some demo in the hall bathroom.
Goodbye Americana bathroom!
You will not be missed!
Uncle Josh came and we all enjoyed him so much. This quote sums up his visit nicely:
Seth: "It was so much fun, I almost threw up!" (In reference to playing a game with Ollie and Josh that involved push ups, jumping around, and possibly general rough housing.)
Here is a lovely and blurry pic of us taking advantage of free cone day at DQ.
Seth discovered the love of the wheelie, and spent time perfecting his "dirt bike man" clothes. He can currently rock a wheelie for "one Mississippi and a half'". I need to get some video of his new tricks.
(Robyn, please look closely and note that he is wearing two pairs of socks that you may recognize.)
Josh put his handyman skills to work laying tile in our bathroom. It turned out so super dreamy! Thank you times a million, Josh!!
Mixing the thin set.
Hard at work!
See?? Doesn't it look terrific?
This sneak peak is all I'm going to post for now until we get a few more things done and have legit before and after pictures to post.
Uncle Josh and the boys!
They are showing off their new camping gear that Josh brought for them.
We had some pretty long faces around here after he pulled out, let me tell ya.

Hello Spring!
March is off to a great start! A big boo to February, in which we all got sick and for some reason I got it three times.
We've had such nice weather for a few weeks now. Jon and I have been nursing our first sunburns (his the traditional face burn from working outside; mine the incredibly non-traditional thumb sunburn from reading a book in the car for two hours while waiting to pick Ollie up).
In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, Seth's teacher issued a challenge to see which of her students could read the most Dr. Seuss books over the course of the week. Seth worked hard all week and burst through the door Friday afternoon shouting "I won!" 15 and 1/2 books were logged and can I just say daaaang Mr. Seuss, sir. I do love all your books, but help a reader out! Your shortest book of those 15 and a half that were read was 61 pages! But Congratulations all the same, Seth! You did it!
Ollie, in typical Ollie fashion, has been beside himself with excitement for upcoming fun events: looking forward to Uncle Josh's visit, camping over spring break, and of course the commercial aspects of Easter (CANDY). We checked out some Junie B. Jones audio books and Ollie dies laughing at each mention of that stupid smelly bus. I believe from the age four to hmmm.... at least seven, the word stupid does not lose it's comedic value.
And that is what I call a great start to March!
