All the Extras

February has been chock full of extra-curricular type activities at Waters Elementary.

The month kicked off with Jump Rope for Heart, and can I just brag for a minute about Seth and Ollie's jump roping skills?  They are both seriously amazing.  Their coaches teach them all types of jumping rope (straddle, criss cross, skier, and on and on...) and then on the big competition day they basically see who can jump rope the longest in each of the categories.  Seth probably won five different events and Ollie got second every single time.  At the end they invite the parents to come up and have a go for some awards.  Let me tell you, I did not win.  And the amount of time my lungs burned afterward was more than double the amount of time I actually jumped rope.

Also, I feel the need to tell you that Seth's current personal best for pogo sticking is over 230 consecutive jumps.  Those boys are just jumping fools.   (I had to go back and edit this.... as of April 2018 Seth’s pogo consecutive jump record is 1,219!!!!)

Ollie also had his big Destination Imagination competition last weekend.  His team worked so very hard to learn about different cultures, then design all their props and costumes, and learn all their lines.  We were so proud to watch them perform for the judges.  Such a great group of kids and a great experience for Ollie.

Here's the team after their performance.

Ollie and Kaleigh answering some of the judges questions afterwards.

A couple of proud brothers with our Tiki.

Later that night they had a big awards ceremony for the teams.

Finally we had our annual PTA skate night for Waters.  We really look forward to this every year, and I'd say we have all improved over the last few years!

Gah!!  Noey had his first skate as well.  So darling!

Nolan Riley

I've been saving some pictures of Noey for a post before he turns TWO later this month.  He is just the darlingest little boy, so fun to watch his curiosity in action, and he is in such a snuggle bug phase. I realized however that I probably should just go ahead and post this cuteness before their are 40 more pictures before his bday.

Here he is digging for the elusive m&m Momo hid at the bottom of his goldfish.

Dentist visit number 2.  NOT A FAN.  He screamed bloody murder while the dental hygienist brushed his teeth.

"Mama!  Mama!  Look!"

Two bros chilling in a half finished room.

This is one of Noey's good buddies, Joe.

Noey and shoes.  A huge infatuation currently.

Bike, muffin, and water bottle, a few of his true loves.

Pushing the boundaries!!  I just told him not to leave the gate at the school playground.  But I didn't mention that he couldn't go under the fence...

Winter Olympics, here we come!

The best face to come home to!

Be Mine!

I've got the best valentines!  I got the boys new lunchboxes for a surprise this morning and Ollie acted as if I had giving him tickets to Disney.  Quite similar to last year's response to electric toothbrushes.  Noey's new lunchbox is a firetruck and that love bug pushed that truck around all morning, toy style.

Noey and I at Ollie's class party.

Seth's class was doing a book exchange.

Omg.  This made me cackle out loud for a while.  Ollie made us valentines at school and this is what they said, "Dear Mom, I love you so much.  Love Ollie.  Dear Dad, I love you as much as mom. Love Ollie."

Me and oldest V-bud.

And the littlest love bug!!

Jon got me a bottle of wine and a redbox rental, so I've technically got plans tonight!

Master Bedroom!

Viola!  Four years later, we have made some changes to our master bedroom!  I spent longer than I care to tell you looking for before pictures of this room.  Who knows where those suckers ended up at, but picture wallpaper (both floral and striped) and taupe walls.  We moved in and tacked a couple dark brown, light-blocking curtains that we already had over the windows.  The curtains, coupled with the dark wall paper made for a very dark cave room, even though the room is actually humongous and does get some good afternoon sun.

We are still rocking our $5 green auction chairs that we have had since we got married.  (I'm sitting in one right now.)  They are stained and gross and are definitely on the chopping block if I ever happen upon a couple other perfectly sized, comfortable $5 chairs.  Also I'm still on the hunt for a rug...

I painted the desk/hutch thing and the cube bookshelf to match.  It's kind of a gray/navy color.  The wall behind the bed is the wall that was (still is!! Shhhh!) wallpapered.  We have taken out a lot of wallpaper in this house and I've learned the process.  Step one: remove wall paper, and you are staring at sheetrock.  Prime said sheetrock, then texture primed wall, prime wall yet again to paint, and finally paint wall.  In an effort not to relive all those steps, I figured we could just paint right over the wallpaper, but we also put that grid on the wall to kind of hide wall paper lines and imperfections.  At the end of the day, I don't think the grid necessarily saved us any time on the aforementioned steps of wallpaper eradication, but I do like how the wall looks and it was nice to have a new task before us.  I made some new curtains and the headboard, Jon hung the reading lamps, slapped a coat of white paint (and poly acrylic.... I'm learning!!) on the nightstands, and it all looks so much lighter and airy.

I put paper in the back of the openings on the desk, which is busy, but I love it.

I would still like to find some kind of desk chair, and the lamp looks too big sitting next to the TV in my opinion, but it is still worlds better than it was.  Trust me!  (I also better throw in the rivaling opinion that the lamp would look just fine next to a bigger scaled TV. Ha!)

At about this point, someone wanted in on my photo shoot.

Well, yes, I am cute.

I'll be honest.  It's hard for me to want to leave this room.  That's the sign of a job well done, in my book!
