I'm glad people take the time to write adoption books. And I'm glad we have read some of them.
If not, I would be pulling my hair out trying to figure out what is happening.
Let's back up. People in the adoption community suggest you think of your kids in terms of family age, rather than chronological age. Thus, we have two ten-month olds, not a 3 1/2 year old and an almost 2 year old. This is especially helpful with thinking about their social and emotional development.
And guess what happens to almost every child when they are around 10 months? Separation Anxiety. Ug. Lil'O went through this a few months ago, but S-Man began experiencing this sometime earlier this month. And it's a bummer. For him, for us.
Basically it means that he doesn't really want to go anywhere, doesn't want anyone to come over, doesn't want to be left (including at bedtime), and leaving him at church is pretty much out of the question.
Adoption experts would look at this situation and say that it is positive, because it is a concrete sign that he loves us a lot. It is a hard season, however. Like I said, glad we had a head's up, or we would probably be thinking we were all going crazy.
Ten months! Lots of Love! And a bunch of crazy!
