Pulling out of the driveway! Let the adventuring begin!
It feels like this trip has been sponsored by Harry Potter. On the way we listened to the audiobook of Prisoner of Azkaban for three hours, stopped for a picnic lunch, then when we were back in the car we watched the Chamber of Secrets for the remainder of the drive. Ollie had conveniently packed the hardback of Azkaban, so we read some more at bedtime once we got to the hotel. As far as I'm concerned, HP can sponsor all of our road time entertainment from here on out.
Here's a little bud who hasn't quite caught the HP bug yet.
We stopped in Coleman for a picnic lunch.
"I hold it. I hold it duck. Quack, quack."
Ollie swung to his heart's content.
Seth and Nolan ran and explored.
"Hi horse! Hi! Hi Horse!"
After our brief (and chilly) romp, back on the road. Our next stop was Zilker Park in Austin, where we played on more playgrounds and rode the Zilker Zephyr, which was definitely a highlight. There was a large water component there as well with kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddle boards, and swimming, (which had to have been freezing). Seth was very intrigued by swimming in the spring, so we will have to come back in the summer for that some day.
All aboard!
After we got out our Frisbee and football. I think this was my favorite part of the day.
Next up was downtown Austin where we explored a little and took in some of Austin culture by dipping our toe in the food truck scene, starting with pizza and ending with cupcakes.
We were trying to be nice to our kids, but really Jon and I were pulling for the Korean truck, or the sushi truck. Next time.
This guy quite literally dove into that four pack of cupcakes.
Finally, on to our hotel to check in! More tomorrow!
