My Favorite Guy

We get to celebrate my man this weekend! Loving father, encouraging spouse, spreadsheet king, this guy has it all. Grandma and Grandpa came down to visit this weekend as well.

We got lots of backyard time in yesterday, both cleaning up and playing.

We finished picking up our pecans and dropped them off for shelling before getting some lunch.

The afternoon included some bubbles with Grandma and finnnnnallly (according to Ollie and Seth) had Dad’s celebration. Take a look at those candles! I’m thinking it may be a sign that we are old!

Ollie had a pretty cute birthday idea and wanted to give Jon a Hogwarts acceptance letter for his birthday. Better late than never?!

All in all a great day celebrating our fav 35 year old!!

Crib for Sale

You guys. We no longer need a crib. It’s seems surreal after five years of foster care, and baby Ollie before that. Good thing our cousins are planning on visiting soon and Layla can use it, otherwise that crib will just start calling for another baby.

We really didn’t have any plans to transition Nolan to a bigger bed, but I walked in his room a few days ago and he was straddling the crib wall, with a look of indecision on his face. Hmmm... in or out?

We tried the twin bed last night and while he was really excited to read books in a new spot, when we tried to tuck him in after a few songs, he bolted for his crib screaming and crying the whole way. I can’t even type that without chuckling. Poor kiddo, he was sad and confused, but the fleeing was hilarious.

Ollie (the most excited person ever) is so thrilled to be sharing his room again. He was dancing around in a silent victory dance blowing Nolan kisses and doing fist pumps after he realized Noey had fallen asleep.

We also found out today at an appointment with an ENT that Ollie would be a great candidate for having his tonsils removed. Ollie could barely contain himself and his excitement in the doctors office. We’ve got it on the books for June 20th; send all the ice cream and Legos as recovery sounds a little more intense than I was expecting. No activity for three weeks, days 7-10 after surgery you feel the worst. Bummer to be out of commission in the summer but I figured it was better than missing weeks of school.

Okay! I’m off to watch basketball. March madness has got my name on it this year! Ain’t no way Carol is taking home the victory three years in a row!

Austin Adventures: 4

Round Rock Doughnuts before heading home. These doughnuts, if possible, were tastier than they even look.

Austin Adventures: 3

Started the day with some hiking/walking, went to creative brick builders where you could play with (or buy) Legos to your hearts content, shopped at Ikea, had lunch, tried out the hotel hot tub and freezing outdoor pool, hit up Old Settler's park, and had more pizza for dinner.

Austin Adventures: 2

Ollie, George, and Nolan. The early morning crew.

The first stop of the day was a children's museum called the Thinkery. It was such a blast. All three of the kids found things that absolutely captivated them.

Seth stopped at this simple machine area upon arrival and didn't move from this area for at least 45 minutes. Jon and I would walk back to check on him periodically and joke that the he had found his wife in the woman who was in charge of staffing the area.

He ended up making this pulley system that would connect two of those large green blocks.  He had all these black knobs set up on the top of them, and after he explained it, they were army fighters advancing across to new areas.

Nolan was delighted by these air tunnels that would shoot up scarves and balls.

Ollie spent time making rockets with different wing shapes, then testing them on this air pressurized popper thing.

The Thinkery also had a legit play structure.

Ollie's in the very top, in that ball thing.

They also had a huge water table, but we all declared it to be too splashy.

There was another park right across the street, which was a perfect spot for day two picnic lunch and playing (of course).

Just a boy and his cuties.

After our morning fun, we drove to the capital to (a) see it and (b) hope that Nolan would fall asleep in the car for a quick afternoon nap.  You will note, dear reader, he appears in all of the following pictures, thus thwarting our plan b, but ensuring plan a for all.

You really can't tell in these pictures, but the capital is straight up pink. All that rock is red granite, which I guess is one thing it is known for. Also this might be our best family picture to date.

Our last stop of the day before bringing Chuy's takeout back to our hotel room was mini golf and laser tag. If you are smart, you will not take your extremely ball loving two-year old to mini golf.  Lesson learned.

Be warned. We came to dominate.
